Satinder K Walia received her master’s degree in Psychology with specialization in school psychology at University of Central Oklahoma, in Oklahoma, USA. Her training provided specialization in assessment, consultation, behavioral therapies and developmental disabilities. She also has a master’s degree in Psychology with specialization in Clinical Psychology from Delhi University, India. She has worked as a Child Psychologist in the Development Clinic in the Department of Pediatrics, at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for nearly five years as a part of multi-disciplinary team. Her work involved early diagnosis, educational support and comprehensive treatment options for children and families dealing with childhood struggles and disabilities. In addition, she has assisted senior psychologist in various private clinics and has been a part of the team setting up of special schools in rural and metro areas. She has also conducted and organized workshops on various topics like Learning Disabilities, ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorders. She has also participated in numerous awareness camps organized by the hospital in the community regarding childhood problems and disorders.

In order to maximize her potential to contribute to the field with full abilities and to complement her unique background with rigorous academic program she pursued further education and enrolled in the masters program at University of Central Oklahoma, USA. During her education she was selected as a graduate assistant and got an opportunity to work as a director in the Special School Services at the University. Under the supervision of her mentor Dr Mary Sweet Darter she learnt to employ best practices in measuring cognitive processes, academic achievement, behavior and personality and to provide parents and other professionals the evidence in diagnosing and addressing a referring problem. During her education she was on President’s Honor Roll and Dean’s Honor Roll. She was also awarded a Merit Award for Outstanding Graduate Achievement (2005-2006) and she was an Outstanding Graduate Student Nominee for College of Education and Professional Studies (2005-2006).

After completing her education from UCO, she became certified psychometrist in the state of Oklahoma and worked for Mid Del School District. Subsequently she moved to the state of Arizona and worked in the Paradise Valley Unified School District as a Certified School Psychologist. The certified school psychologist specializes in the delivery of psychological services within school settings to improve the education, adjustment, and behavior of students. Typical skills include assessments of students to determine whether disabilities are having a negative impact on educational functioning, recommendations for school-based interventions for students, teacher consultation, parent consultation, and individual/group therapy.

After working for nearly five years in US in the areas of disability she finally decided to move back to India.
Presently, she is a visiting consultant to BLK Super Speciality Hospital, Pusa Road (New Delhi).
